Cashback
Cashback is store credit you earn by shopping. It's the heart of the Bione loyalty programme — this page explains the balance screen, the ledger, and how redemption works.
Why cashback exists
Cashback rewards repeat customers. Instead of a one-time discount, you earn credit every time you shop — and that credit can only be spent at the same shop. This creates a cycle: shop, earn, spend, shop again. The shop gets loyalty, you get rewarded.
Why it's non-fungible
Credit earned at Shop A can only be spent at Shop A. This is deliberate — each shop funds its own cashback programme independently. If credit were fungible, one shop would be subsidising another's customers.
What cashback is
- Cashback is store credit, not a coupon or discount code.
- You earn a percentage of your paid spend as credit.
- You spend it on future orders at the same shop.
- It is non-fungible — credit earned at Shop A can only be spent at Shop A.
How to check your balance
The cashback screen shows:
- Hero — how much you've earned this month, plus a pending bucket (cashback not yet confirmed).
- Ledger — a full history of every credit and debit, grouped by Today / This week / Earlier, with each entry signed and coloured by direction (money in vs money out) and the balance after each movement.
When to check your balance
Check before you checkout — you'll see if you have enough credit to redeem against an order. Also check after an order completes to confirm your earnings arrived.
What "pending" means
Pending cashback is earned but not yet confirmed. This happens when you place an order — the cashback becomes available once the order is completed (paid and fulfilled). If an order is cancelled, pending cashback is forfeited.
How tiers work
Cashback tiers (Bronze / Silver / Gold) unlock as your lifetime spend grows at a shop. Higher tiers mean higher earn rates. A shop's tiers are set by the shop; you can see your current tier and progress on the shop's membership card.
When you move up a tier
Your tier upgrades automatically when your lifetime spend at a shop crosses a threshold. You don't need to do anything — the new rate applies to your next purchase.
When you might move down
Some shops use time-based tiers (for example "per-period spend"). If you don't meet the threshold within the period, you may drop to a lower tier. Check the shop's tier rules on their membership card.
How to earn cashback
Online orders
You earn automatically on every paid order. No action needed — when the order completes, cashback appears in your ledger.
In-store (offline)
A cashier scans your QR code (or enters your 6-digit code) and credits cashback at the till.
When to show your QR: every time you pay at a physical shop. Even if you're paying cash, showing your QR ensures you earn cashback on the transaction.
How to redeem cashback
Redemption happens at the point of sale:
In-store
Show your QR code to the cashier to spend your balance. Tell the cashier how much you want to redeem before they process the payment.
Online
Toggle redeem cashback during checkout to apply your credit to that order, before it's placed.
When not to redeem
If you're saving your balance for a larger purchase, or if you want to maintain a high tier (some shops count only paid amounts toward tier thresholds), skip redemption this time.
What you can't do
- Move cashback between shops.
- Take it out as cash.
- Spend it after leaving a shop's loyalty programme (your balance stays, but you can't earn new cashback).
How to earn a welcome bonus
Some shops offer a welcome bonus when you join their loyalty programme. This is a one-time credit — check the membership card on the shop detail page to see if a shop offers one.
